Leeward Islands

The Leeward Islands has made a terrific start to the season this year. They are undefeated in the competition yet and have recorded a couple of victories so far. They were also involved in a game that was washed away. They are leading the points table in Zone B of the Super50 Cup. Devon Thomas has been in terrific touch with the bat for the Leeward Islands. The southpaw has managed to collect 132 runs with an average of 44 and he has been scoring these runs at a strike rate of 85.16. Keacy Carty has also been among the runs in the competition. He has put together 164 runs from 3 innings with a hundred and a fifty.

Another player that is doing well for the Leeward Islands is Rahkeem Cornwall. He has been superb with both bat and ball. He hit brilliant match-winning innings of 81 against the Jamaican side. He was also among wickets against West Indies Emerging in the first match of the season when he picked up 4 wickets for 42 runs. This was the first game played by the Leeward Islands in the competition. Kofi James is another all-rounder that is doing an excellent job for the Leeward Islands. He has been in great form with the ball. He bowled for his side in 2 matches out of three to pick up 6 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 4.00. He has a bowling strike rate of 19.20 and an average of 12.80 at the moment.

In their last match, Leeward Islands played in the competition, had a result, they defeated Jamaica by a margin of 68 runs. Devon Thomas and Ross Powell got the Leeward Islands side to a good start as they put together 61 runs for the opening wicket. There was a bit of a collapse after that when the middle order could not contribute much to the total. But Rahkeem Cornwall came to their rescue hitting 81 from 72 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes taking the team total to a decent 270 for 9. He was supported by lower middle-order batters such as Terrence Warde, Kofi James, and Hayden Walsh.

West Indies Emerging

West Indies Emerging on the other hand is a team of newbies. They lost the first couple of matches in the competition before recording a win in their next fixture. Kevin Wickham is an all-rounder for the West Indies Emerging team. He is doing well with both bat and ball in the competition. He has managed to score 142 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 89.30 and with the ball in hand has picked up 3 wickets with an economy rate of 4.67. As far as the bowling for West Indies Emerging is concerned Joshua Bishop has been excellent. The left-arm spinner has picked up 6 scalps while bowling at an economy rate of 3.93 in the tournament.

West Indies Academy pulled up a surprise in their last game by defeating Jamaica with a slender margin of 12 runs. West Indies Emerging did not perform too well with the bat as they scored just 182 runs all out from their quota of 50 overs. All their top-order batsmen got off to a start only to find themselves losing wickets without making big contributions with the bat. Kevin Wickham was the top run-getter with 46 runs for the academy. Kevlon Anderson also contributed 33 runs although they were scored from 62 balls. The wicket-keeper batsman Leonardo Julien also scored 32 runs.

However, the West Indies Academy delivered a superb performance with the ball to follow the dismal one with the bat. During the Jamaica reply, Joshua James picked up 3 wickets for 19 runs from his 7 overs. He was aided by Ashmead Nedki who also picked up 3 wickets for 33 runs from his 7 overs. There were other bowlers among wickets such as Kevin Wickham with a couple of scalps, and Nyeem Young and Joshua Bishop picking up a wicket apiece. Kevin Wickham picked up the player of the match award for West Indies Academy with a superb all-round performance for this side.
