NSW vs SAC Match Prediction - Oct 30, 2022

There are no two states that could use a cricket win more than New South Wales and South Australia. Both squads have had a bad run of losses, drawn matches, and abandoned games due to terrible weather.

South Australia did pick up a nice win in the ODI Marsh Cup, but their last two Sheffield Shield games were a loss to Tasmania and a draw to Victoria.

NSW are desperate for a victory, as their last two SS games were a loss to WA and a draw to Queensland. It’s safe to say that NSW and SA will be fighting hard to ensure their cricket is back on track.

NSW vs SAC Team Previews

New South Wales

It’s tough to know what might have happened with the last SS match regarding NSW vs. Queensland, as the match was called off in QL’s second innings. NSW put up two decent totals of 246 and 256 over two innings, although that’s not much to get excited about.

Jason Sangha and Daniel Hughes are supposed to be the top two batters in the lineup, respectively, but they weren’t much use here. Sangha scored just three runs in two innings, while Hughes picked up only 15 runs. Both average runs in the high 30s, so it’s fairly disappointing to see them dismissed for next to nothing.

Matthew Gilkes had a pretty impressive batting performance, scoring 72 in the first and then 48 in the second. Gilkes is a young wicketkeeper who is quickly becoming an important part of the NSW squad, and he’s got to keep up this type of presentation to preserve his middle-order spot.

It was heartbreaking to see Moises Henriques dismissed for 99 runs from 280 deliveries, especially as he rarely goes above 40 runs in the Sheffield Shield. Everyone remembers centuries, but 99 gets lost in the mix despite being just one run away from the big total.

There was only one bowling innings to go off, but we were impressed by Sean Abbott’s 3/98 from 30 overs (ER: 3.26). He was having a bit of a wicket drought before this, but this type of bowling attack is just what he and the team need to stay afloat.

South Australia Redbacks

A bit like NSW, South Australia’s top run scorer was a bit underwhelming in the recent loss to Tasmania.

Henry Hunt is averaging 44.25, but came away with just 21 in two innings. Jake Weatherald should typically be the No. 2 batsman, but he also finished with 71 runs in two innings. SA can’t afford poor batting performances like this if they are desperate for victories.

Benjamin Manenti’s 85 and Jake Lehmann’s 73 proved that there are bright batting spots elsewhere on the roster, but these guys aren’t putting up grand totals on a consistent basis.

SA had a couple of impressive bowling spurts, especially from Wes Agar in the first innings, as he took 4/34 in 19 overs (ER: 1.78). It was in the second innings, however, that Tasmania started to annihilate SA, as Agar only went 1/78.

The bowling was far too predictable and simple from South Australia and they’ll have to mix things up against NSW.

Alex Carey, Benjamin Manenti, Brendan Doggett, Henry Hunt, Jordan Buckingham, Daniel Drew, Jake Weatherald, Jake Lehmann, Nathan McAndrew, Travis Head, Wes Agar.

NSW vs SAC Toss Prediction

The squad winning the toss will want to bat first and force the other to chase a target on a pitch that may favour bowlers later in the contest.

Pitch and Conditions

Batsmen at the Wollongong pitch usually have a better time than bowlers, as there’s never so much swing or turn. The outfield is typically very quick as well.

NSW vs SAC Betting Tips

It seems like the weather is deciding a lot of games in Australia recently, but if the sun is out and rain stays away, then we’ve got to prefer South Australia in this matchup.

NSW looks like they’re in a tailspin now, and while SA isn’t light-years ahead, it’s still a noticeable difference. If Hunt and Weatherald can both reach centuries, and the bowling proves reliable, then SA should have an easy task to dispatch NSW in this crucial Sheffield Shield game.
