OV vs WF Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 15, 2023
After a short break, the Otago Volts and the Wellington Firebirds will resume their journey in the Super Smash as they face each other this Sunday in match number 18 at Dunedin.
The weather in New Zealand has been pretty wet during the last week. As a result, the latest matches of both teams have been abandoned. This has given the coach and the captains adequate time to rethink their strategies for the upcoming matches.
OV vs WF Team Previews
Otago Volts
The Otago Volts started their campaign with consecutive losses, the first of which came against this very team in a reverse fixture. However, the Volts have been undefeated in their previous two completed matches, defeated the Auckland Aces once, and ending their latest match, also played against the Aces, in a tie. As a result, the Volts are 4th on the points table. A win here will take them closer to the top 3.
This season for the Otago Volts has been all about the stunning all-round performance of Dean Foxcroft. He is the leading run-scorer as well as the leading wicket-taker in the team so far. However, the other players will now need to step up if the Volts want better results in the second round.
Their top-order batsmen haven’t been playing up to their full potential yet. Hamish Rutherford, Thorn Parkes, Dale Phillips, and Josh Finnie will have to shoulder more responsibilities going forward. With Jacob Duffy joining international duty, the bowling for Otago Volts looks considerably weaker, as only Michael Rae and Foxcroft have managed to pick wickets at regular intervals.
On the other hand, Ben Lockrose and Matthew Bacon have struggled to find the right rhythm in this series.

Hamish Rutherford, Dale Phillips, Dean Foxcroft, Joshua Finnie, Michael Rippon, Llew Johnson, Nick Kwant, Jake Gibson, Benjamin Lockrose, Michael Rae, Matthew Bacon.
Wellington Firebirds
After collecting maximum points from the first 3 matches, the Firebirds have shed points in both of their previous matches. They suffered a loss against the Northern Knights last week, while their previous match, scheduled against the Central Stags, was washed out, forcing them to share points. Nevertheless, they are still at the top of the points table, thanks to a better NRR.
The team has some good all-rounders in the form of Nick Kelly and Rachin Ravindra, both of whom have played a couple of good innings so far. With Finn Allen leaving the Firebirds squad to join the national team in Pakistan, the Firebirds included Devan Vishvaka at the top of the order, but he failed to impress.
The Wellington Firebirds have a deep batting line-up and will be looking to batsmen like Troy Johnson, Nathan Smith, and Callum McLachlan to step up. Peter Younghusband and Logan van Beek have picked up 4 wickets each, while Ravindra is the leading wicket-taker in the squad with 5.

Pitch and Conditions
The University Oval has a flat pitch which is excellent to bat on and the average first-inning score here in Super Smash matches is around 170. However, as the weather is expected to be overcast here, the quicker bowlers can expect come movement early on.
The conditions are likely to be excellent to play cricket as temperatures will remain around 20 degrees Celsius and there is hardly any chance of rain.
OV vs WF Betting Tips
With both teams facing less-than-ideal results in their respective previous matches, they will be eager to get back to winning ways here. The fact that Wellington has already defeated Otago once this season will have a positive impact on their confidence and they will be hoping for a similar outcome in this game too. On the other hand, Otago has struggled in all departments and has failed to perform well as a single unit.
Bet on the Wellington Firebirds to win.
Bonus Cricket Bets
Ever since his return to New Zealand, Foxcroft has been in sublime form across all formats of the game. In Super Smash, Foxcroft has scored 198 runs so far in 4 innings, including 2 half-centuries. He has been the mainstay of the Otago Volts’ batting and we expect him to score freely at the batting-friendly surface at Dunedin.
