PAK vs ENG Match Prediction - Dec 09, 2022

We often hear about teams and captains reimagining or changing the very nature of the game itself but these instances are few and far in between. Every cricket lover should be thrilled to be a part of such a moment in history. What England and Ben Stokes are doing is going to fundamentally change the way Test Cricket is viewed.

The two have taken the playbook and thrown it out of the window. 'Bazball', for the lack of a better word, is here to stay and England will not take a step backward. In fact, Stokes talked about potentially forfeiting an inning in an effort to move the game forward.

Leading 1-0 with two Tests to go, most captains would have been happy with a Draw in this Test to ensure they don't lose the series. England, on the other hand, has stated its clear intention to go for the result whenever possible. This approach will force Pakistan to change its approach as well.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for Pakistan vs England 2nd Test 2022. The match will be played at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan starting on the 9th of December 2022.

PAK vs ENG Team Previews

Pakistan

Pakistan looked a bit shell-shocked that it ended up losing the first Test. Its approach was a bit too conservative in comparison to England and the only reason it had a shot of winning was because England declared so aggressively. Babar Azam said he wanted a turning pitch in Rawalpindi but did not get it. Is there a chance his wish will be fulfilled in Multan?

Pakistan's batting was quite good for the most part in the first Test. Imam ul Haq was their most impressive batter with runs in both innings and was particularly impressive against the spinners. We know how effective Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam are in home conditions as well. Perhaps a bit more can be expected of Azhar Ali who struggled in both innings on an absolutely flat surface.

Suad Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan will be happy to have got some runs under their belts. With Agha Salman at 7, we think Pakistan's batting depth is a bit questionable.

Giving away runs at 6.50 in the first inning and over 7 in the second inning cannot be good for the Pakistani bowling unit's confidence. All the bowlers suffered a lot of punishment and even though Zahid Mahmood six wickets in the match we don't think his place is still certain in the lineup.

Hopefully, Abrar Ahmed will get a chance in this match in place of the injured Haris Rauf. Naseem Shah bowled with pace but he may not be ready to lead the bowling attack just yet. The Pakistani bowling attack is talented but inexperienced. It needs a bit of help from the surface to succeed.

England

England kept on putting relentless pressure on the Pakistani lineup in the previous match. They did not let a slow or a dead surface stop it and kept attacking all throughout with both bat and ball. We think they will have to take a similar approach in Multan but may also be faced with elements conspiring to give them a lot fewer overs to push for the match.

More or less the same lineup is expected to take the field for this match unless there is a niggle that we are not aware of.

Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brooks are the new-age players that will once again play in a free and attacking manner while Joe Root and Ben Stokes are the experienced players that can also play a more sedate role if required.

The amount of depth that England has is just incredible. Liam Livingstone, Will Jacks, and Ollie Robinson all form the lower order for this team. They are more than capable of playing a big inning and allow the top order to not worry about losing wickets too much.

England's bowling approach has been to have enough options in the bank. They played Anderson, Robinson, and Stokes as the seamers while Leach, Jacks, Livingstone, and Root offer the spin-bowling options. This way England is ready to respond no matter how the pitch is behaving.

PAK vs ENG Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is almost certainly going to want to bat first. The pitch is likely to be at its flattest when the match starts and is then going to start to deteriorate a bit.

Pitch and Conditions

The Multan pitch has traditionally been very flat and excellent for batting. This is where Virender Sehwag smashed a triple century and where the ball struggles to bounce over stump height. That suggests that a lot of runs are on offer. We hope that the groundsman has allowed the pitch to dry out a bit so that there is some spin on offer otherwise it may require a lot of risk-taking to actually force a result.

Smog is an important factor to take into consideration at this venue. It could delay the start and eat into overs. Also, the sunset is relatively early which makes gaining extra time on that end difficult as well. We may end up losing close to 100 overs over the course of the Test Match.

PAK vs ENG Betting Tips

We know that whatever happens, England is going to go for the victory. However, it is not always going to be able to face insurmountable odds to force a victory. With another flat and dead pitch in front of it, the smog likely to take out valuable time from the match, a Draw may finally be in store for Ben Stokes.

The odds on offer for the Draw are also very attractive right now.

Bet on the Draw.
