PAK vs HKG Match Prediction - Sep 02, 2022

It's been a short yet a tournament full of twists and turns in the Asia Cup 2022. Surprisingly, Afghanistan became the first team to reserve a spot in super-four, leaving Bangladesh and Sri Lanka both in a tricky situation. In the other group, It was India who won both their matches to make it to the next round. We have four teams now - two from each group, fighting hard to get the two remaining spots.

In the last game of the competition, Hong Kong will be taking on Pakistan in what would be a virtual knockout for both these sides. The winner will sail through to the next round whereas the losing team will fly home. Pakistan are certainly the favorites walking into the game but as we have seen in the tournament already, Hong Kong does pack a punch and will not be easy to deal with.

The two sides are all set to meet on 2nd September 2022 at the Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah. There's a lot at stake and both sides are expected to come out hard at each other. Expect this to be an action filled match.

PAK vs HKG Team Previews

Pakistan

With a heart-wrenching last over loss against India, Pakistan would be gutted with the way they performed in their opening contest. They did well with the ball in the second-half but the total they scored just wasn't enough to provide any comfort to the bowlers. They have the needed expertise to get past even the best in the business but have lacked the execution skills. Even though this upcoming match is against Hong Kong, they would still want to register a win here.

On paper, Pakistan have a remarkably good opening pair that is not backed up by a middle-order as good. The pair of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam have done incredibly well over the last one year and a lot will depend on how their opening pair does. While Pakistan have some talented young players in the middle, they are known to collapse as a team in crunch situations. Asif Ali has not yet done justice to his talent and this tournament and the ones to follow is where he would want to make a mark.

As has always been the case, Pakistan's strength lies with their bowling. Despite not having Shaheen Shah Afridi, Pakistan have a bowling attack that is right up there. Naseem Shah, despite being debutant, bowled exceedingly well in the first match. He was ably supported by the likes of Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf. Fitness was an issue in the previous match and we expect Pakistan to manage things a lot better against Hong Kong.

All in all, Pakistan have a pretty good side with bowling being their stronger suite. They will need their middle-order to contribute better and if they can do that, they will be well in business to not only win this upcoming match but also go all the way in the tournament.

Pakistan Playing 11

Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani.

Hong Kong

With a splendid run in the qualifiers and then fighting hard against India in the opening contest, Hong Kong have certainly surprised one and all with their skills, grit, and determination. They would need to execute things better under pressure as that could be a turning point in this upcoming match.

Against India, Hong Kong were pretty good for a decent stretch in the match but lost control when it mattered the most. They bowled well in the first fifteen overs and batted pretty well too. While they ended up way short of the total they needed to score, they did an excellent job to stay in the hunt for a decent time in the match.

On paper, Hong Kong are a bit over-reliant on only a few players and that can hurt them against Pakistan. Their top-three have been brilliant thus far and a lot will depend on how they do. As seen against India, they have a little fragile bowling attack that might break when put under the pump. They are a capable side and can beat Pakistan but unless they play out of their skins, it is going to be incredibly difficult.

Hong Kong Playing 11

Nizakat Khan, Yasim Murtaza, Babar Hayat, KD Shah, Aizaz Khan, Zeeshan Ali, Scott McKechnie, Haroon Arshad, Ehsan Khan, Ayush Shukla, Mohammad Ghazanfar.

PAK vs HKG Toss Prediction

Time and again we have seen the team chasing ending up winners while playing in these conditions. We saw that to be the case in the World T20 2021 and continues to be the case here in Asia Cup 2022 too. India's win over Hong Kong was the only game where the team batting first won. While the surface doesn't change a lot over the course of the match, knowing what to chase definitely helps. Given the weather and the fact that it pays to win the toss here in UAE, the captain winning the toss is expected to field first.

Pitch and Conditions

It's been pretty hot in the tournament up until now, at Dubai and Sharjah both, and it will not be any different in this match as well. Even though Sharjah is known for its toy-sized boundaries, bowlers have actually prospered here. In fact, it is the slower bowlers who have enjoyed more success. The surface is once again expected to be on the slower side and hitting through the line will be difficult. We have seen low-scoring matches here in recent times and that may well happen to be the case again. The team batting first should be happy if they manage to score anything over 160 here. Anything less than 150 though, it would be the advantage team chasing.

PAK vs HKG Betting Tips

More often than not, Pakistan are a superb team. However, when they are not, they can be extremely idiotic - to an extent that they can lose to even lesser known teams more freqeuently than one can imagine. That said, they have improved massively in recent times, thanks to the stability provided by Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan at the top. They are a better-side between the two, on all accounts. They also have the advantage of knowing the UAE conditions better. Keeping all that into consideration, a bet on Pakistan win should be the way to go here.

Hong Kong have been fluent in their last four matches, at least with the bat, and the primary reason for that is certainly their top-order. The trio Yasim Murtaza, Nizakat Khan, and Babar Hayat have been brilliant at the top but the pick of them has been Babar Hayat. He is a hard-hitter of the cricket ball and is in terrific form. Considering the way he is playing, a bet on Babar Hayat to be the best man from the Hong Kong camp seems quite a lucrative option.

Pakistan have an excellent array of fast bowlers and picking between them can be tough. One man who stood out for them in the last match is Naseem Shah. He may be young but is pretty effective. He bowls at the death as well as at the top and will therefore have ample chances to pick wickets. A couple of wickets for him in the match are certainly on the cards here. Bet on Naseem Shah to take 2 or more wickets.
