Perth Scorchers Women

Perth had a shock loss to the Thunder, but they’ll have quite the test when they face the Hurricanes. The Scorchers are the current champions of the WBBL, and it appears as if nothing has changed since then.

The wins are piling up through a combination of solid batting and precise bowling. Although Perth had a bit of trouble at the top order batting against the Stars, they still got the job done and pulled out the win.

We wanted to see a bit more from captain Sophie Devine and Chloe Piparo, but every batter has a few mistakes now and then and we’re sure they’ll improve against the Hurricanes.

Where Perth could dominate is with the ball, as both Taneale Peschel and Alana King are in the top eight of wickets taken in the WBBL with five each. Look out for Lilly Mills and Piepa Cleary, as both are capable of sneaking in two-three wickets in every match.

Hobart Hurricanes Women

When the Hurricanes last faced the Scorchers, the first four Hobart batters combined for a total score of 22 runs. That’s a bit telling, right? However, it surely can’t happen twice and perhaps the nerves of taking on the Scorchers are gone now.

The biggest X-Factor on the Hurricanes is undoubtedly allrounder Heather Graham. In the last three matches, she’s picked up 67 runs and bowled 5/45, which means she’s producing some good numbers that can be relied upon when the going gets tough.

If the Hurricanes are going to win, which they are certainly capable of, then it needs to be through strong batting from captain Elyse Villani. Nothing can spark a victory like a captain’s knock, especially if it’s 50 runs or more. Villani has solid T20 career stats, including 1,369 runs in 58 innings with a batting average of 28.52.
