Perth Scorchers Women

The Scorchers have a 4-2 record this season, but are they as good as they were last year? This is what we’ll find out when they play against a tough squad like the Sixers. It’s put up, or shut up time now.

Perth has had a bit of a rollercoaster season lately, as their last four matches have been a loss, abandoned game, loss, and a recent win over the Heat. Without this win over Brisbane, there could have been real trouble for the Scorchers, but they managed to get back on track thanks largely to Piparo, Green, and Edgar all scoring in the 30s. Solid bowling from King and Kapp also sealed the victory.

Beth Mooney is continuing to propel the Scorchers to wins, as she’s knocked up 159 runs so far this season, but she’s also getting great assistance from the likes of Green and Edgar. The latter, especially, has been tremendous lately with 27* and 36* in her last two matches.

Captain Sophie Devine has been somewhat underwhelming with the bat, as she’s continually failing to reach big targets as an opener. She’s scored only 22 runs in her last five matches, which needs to improve drastically.

Kapp and King have been holding the fort for the Scorchers in terms of bowling, but we’re also highly impressed with spinner Lilly Mills. At only 21 years of age, Mills has a bright future in the league, as she’s picked up eight wickets in her last five matches and only given up roughly 20 runs each game.

Sydney Sixers Women

The Sydney Sixers just refuse to slow down, as their 6-1 record and three straight wins make them easily the best team in the league.

They’ve simply got everything right, as Bates (208 runs) and Burns (183) continue to dominate the batting, while Ecclestone, Brown, and Gardner all have over 10 wickets so far. The Scorchers are bound to give them the biggest test of any team, and as this is the first matchup of the season for these squads, it’s arguably the most exciting.

While it’s true that Bates and Burns are the star batters here, the Sixers can also rely on Gardner and Healy whenever the Big Two aren’t having a great game. Healy, especially, was massively impressive with her 78 runs against the Renegades, and Gardner has scored double figures in four of her last five matches.

Ellyse Perry continues to struggle with the bat, though, scoring just five runs in her last four games. The bowling lineup is keeping the Sixers going, as the frontline trio of Ecclestone, Brown, and Gardner is quickly becoming one of the most formidable in the league. Allrounder Gardner is on a streak right now, picking up 4/23 and 3/22 in recent wins.
