Paarl Royals

One win out of three for the Paarl Royals so far has put them on the back foot. They were one of the most fancied teams before the start of SA 20 2023 but a few of their top-order batters have misfired. Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, and David Miller have not had the kind of returns that you would expect of them. 

While Roy and Miller have at least gotten starts, Buttler has been completely short of runs. Their presence still makes them a big threat, though, but the poor run of form is something that needs attention. 

Eoin Morgan and Dane Vilas did score a few runs and put up a fight in the previous match. That is something that would have raised hopes moving to the next match. 

Ferisco Adams and Bjorn Fortuin went for a lot of runs in the previous match but they both were very effective when they played in Paarl. Lungi Ngidi and Evan Jones bowled very well to somewhat limit the damage against DSG. We expect the Paarl Royals bowling attack to be quite a bit more effective while playing in Paarl.

Durban Super Giants

DSG has won two out of the three matches that it has played so far and is firmly in the top half of the standings so far. An absolutely stunning batting assault from DSG, particularly from de Kock and Klaasen, took the match beyond what Paarl Royals were capable of chasing. 

Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen smashed ten sixes between them and looked completely at ease. The surface that awaits them in Paarl may be a bit slower and helpful to the spinners, though. That is not something that either de Kock or Klaasen would enjoy. 

DSG certainly has a strong batting lineup but we would not get too carried away with the performance in one match. It will also be very interesting to see how DSG employs its own spinners in the next match. Keshav Maharaj and Prenalan Subrayen have been superb for DSG while Reece Topley is a valuable addition to the bowling attack as well. 

Kyle Mayers seems to be used only for one over with the new ball just to add some flexibility to the lineup. Dwaine Pretorius, Jason Holder, and Wiaan Mulder are all medium-pace bowlers that could come in for a real hiding if the Paarl Royals batting gets its act together.
