Rangpur Rangers

Rangpur Riders are going into this game with 4 wins in a row in the tournament. They played their last game against Dhaka Dominators in the 34th match of BPL 2023 on 3rd February 2023 yesterday. It was a close game of cricket and Rangpur emerged victorious in it by a slender margin of 2 wickets. Batting first, Dhaka Dominators scored 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets from their stipulated 20 overs. The Rangpur Riders team had to sweat quite a bit to reach the target and also lost 8 wickets in the process. However, they did cross the line in 19.3 overs to register a win.

Nurul Hasan was declared player of the match for his 61 runs from 33 balls. Dhaka Dominators did not get off to a good start to their innings and lost some wickets at the top of the inning. However, some good contributions in the lower middle order from the likes of Abdullah Al Mamun, Alex Blake, and Ariful Haque ensured that Dhaka posted a decent total on the board. The best bowler for Rangpur Riders was Azmatullah Omarzai. He picked up a couple of wickets for 22 runs from his 4 overs. Almost all other bowlers from the Rangpur side chipped in with wickets to provide a collective effort.

Rangpur did not make a good start to their innings either, losing a couple of early wickets. However, there was a good partnership after that between Rony Talukdar and Nurul Hasan who is also the Rangpur skipper. Nurul Hasan in particular was extremely severe on the bowlers hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes on his way to a superb 61 from 33 balls. Rony Talukdar scored a steady 34 from 39 balls with 3 fours to provide support to Hasan. But both these batters got out and it was left to the lower middle order to finish the innings for Rangpur. 

Sylhet Strikers

The Sylhet Strikers team is the table topper at the moment and has recorded as many as 8 wins from 10 games. In the 30th game of the BPL 2023 Sylhet Strikers took on Khulna Tigers on 30th January in Sylhet. They won the match easily with a margin of 31 runs. For Sylhet Strikers, Towhid Hridoy was declared player of the match for his 49-ball 74. Batting first, the Sylhet Strikers team posted a big total on the board of 192 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Towhid Hridoy was severe on the bowlers hitting 74 runs with 9 fours at the top of the innings.

Zakir Hasan also hit a fifty for Sylhet scoring 53 runs from 38 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours. These two batters were involved in a big partnership for the second wicket scoring 114 runs to take the score to an imposing one. Mark Deyal was the most successful bowler for the Khulna Tigers picking up a couple of wickets. Ryan Burl and Thisara Perera hit some lusty blows toward the end of the innings for Sylhet to ensure that the team put up an imposing total on the board. They scored 21 and 17 runs respectively and remained unbeaten.

The Khulna Tigers never looked like reaching the target. There were some notable contributions from some of their batters but reaching the target never looked like within their realms of possibility. The usual suspects for the team Shai Hope, Azam Khan, and Mahmudul Hasan Joy did score some runs but none of them could keep the tempo going and this effort fell short of the target in the end. Robel Hossain was the pick of eh bowlers for Sylhet Strikers picking up 4 wickets for 37 runs. He was supported by the likes of Mohammad Amir and Rejaur Rahman Raja who picked up a couple of wickets apiece.
