Rangpur Rangers

The Rangpur Riders didn’t have the best of starts to the season but they gradually picked up momentum to finish 3rd on the table. They have won 7 of their last 8 matches and will be feeling quite confident as they head into this contest.

Shamim Hossain, who was seen struggling to score runs at the start of the season seems to have hit some good form as he scored a brilliant 71 of just 51 deliveries. Rony Talukdar, who has by far been the most consistent batsman in the side too played a handy knock as both batsmen put up a 61-run partnership as the Riders chased down a target of 171 with 4 wickets in hand.

In addition to Talukdar and Shamim, the Riders will bank on Mohammad Naim, Nurul Hasan, and all-rounder Mahedi Hasan to score runs here. Azmatullah Omarzai was the joint-leading wicket-taker for the Riders but had to depart for the upcoming PSL. He was replaced by Dasun Shanaka, who was quite impressive as he took 2 wickets in his first match of the season.

The team has also brought in the veteran West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to strengthen the death bowling, while Nicholas Pooran has replaced To Kohler-Cadmore. 

Sylhet Strikers

The Sylhet Strikers had an excellent start to the season which helped them finish at the top spot on the points table at the end of the group stage. However, their form has seen a dip over the past couple of weeks, as they have lost 2 of their last 3 matches, including the 1st Qualifier.

In that game, Najmul Hossain Shanto carried on with his excellent form and once again emerged as the top-scorer for his team. However, the other batsmen failed to get going as the Strikers were bowled out for just 125. With such a modest target to defend against a strong batting line-up, the bowlers didn’t stand a chance.

Despite Rubel Hossain taking 3 wickets the Comilla Victorians won quite comfortably. The team will once again depend on Shanto to give them a good start in this game. Towhid Hridoy too has been quite dependable and more will be expected from him. The middle order however looks a bit out of form as Mushfiqur Rahim, and Zakir Hasan have lacked consistency.

With Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir departing for the PSL, the bowling too appears a bit lacking for the Strikers, as Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain have been quite expensive this season. Sri Lankan all-rounder Isuru Idana has made his way into the team and will need to perform right from the word go in his knockout fixture.
