South Australia Redbacks

South Australia will have quite the battle on their hands, especially since they haven’t defeated WA for several years. They’ll be missing Alex Carey and Travis Head due to Oz Test commitments, but there are still plenty of players who can win the match for SA.

The state did pick up a victory over Tasmania in the last game of 2022, with 118 runs from Nathan McSweeney in the first innings and 92 runs from Daniel Drew in the second. It’s peculiar why Jake Weatherald isn’t in the side, but SA will look to Drew and McSweeney.

Henry Hunt is another big name looking to make a case for himself in the national side, as he’s already picked up 540 runs in his last nine matches during the SS.

SA’s bowling is better than people give them credit for, as both pace bowlers Wes Agar (23 wickets) and Brendan Doggett (24) were hugely important for the Redbacks in the first-class cricket format. These two can turn the game on its head, as they were vital in the win over Tasmania, with Agar earning 6/82 and Doggett picking up 7/84 over two innings.

Western Australia

The dust has barely settled on Perth’s massive win for the BBL championship, but there’s little time to rest for many of the Western Australian players. Just like the Scorchers, WA have won two titles in a row and remain the team to beat right now.

The biggest news for the squad is that bowler Jhye Richardson will be sidelined as he recovers from a hamstring injury, as well as allrounder Cameron Green, bowler Lance Morris (leading wicket-taker in the SS with 27) and bowler Ashton Agar will all be out due to Oz Test commitments against India.

Shaun Marsh will be leading the team as captain, and even at 39 years of age, Marsh is still a wonderful batter who can make a strong impact on the team. He not only made a big 82* for the Renegades in the BBL, but is averaging 41.43 runs in the SS and has made a total of 12,015. Other batters likely to be important are Sam Whiteman (887 runs from 10 matches) and Cameron Bancroft (823 runs from 10 matches).

The bowling will take a bit of a dip without Richardson or Morris, but we’re excited to see a big game from pacer Matt Kelly, who was excellent in the BBL and already has 135 wickets from 81 innings in the SS.

SAC vs WAC Toss Prediction

The state winning the toss should bat first, as the pitch is great early on in the match.

Pitch and Conditions

Batters love the Adelaide Oval because it’s typically very flat and big scores are common here. In Test matches, the pitch doesn’t seem to deteriorate until much later in the contest.

SAC vs WAC Betting Tips

Despite the odds from Betway saying that WA is the favourite and sure to win, we think it’s more worth your time to choose SA on this one. The odds are really great for a South Australia victory, and they have young, talented players like Hunt, McSweeney, Agar, and Doggett to help steal the show.

Western Australia will be a fearsome matchup and won’t go away without a fight, but SA has solid players that just need some experience and can certainly defeat WA if in the right form.

Bet on South Australia to win.
