It is a bottom-of-the-table clash as St. Lucia Kings take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors. These two have been among the worst CPL 2022 teams and are currently 5th and 6th respectively (out of a total of six teams). The Kings have played four matches, lost three, and won the other. The Warriors have played three matches, lost two and the other was rained out.

St Lucia Kings

The St. Lucia Kings will be glad that Tim David is showing some signs of form because he is a genuine match-winner. Faf du Plessis, Johnson Charles, Mark Deyal, and Roston Chase do not really form a top-tier batting lineup. There is not enough hitting power throughout the lineup and most of the players are out of form. Tim David and David Wiese seem to be the standout players in the squad.

The Kings have tended to lose wickets early and that does not allow them to really get going. The strike rate of players batting in the top order is also a clear issue.

The bowling lineup is not much better either. Alzarri Joseph has 10 wickets in CPL 2022 so far, an exceptional return but the rest of the bowling falls off very quickly. Kuggeleijn picks up wickets as well but he is the most expensive bowler in the lineup.

The Kings seem a bit unbalanced to us right now.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors are still winless in CPL 2022. Not a single player has hit a fifty from their team and not a single bowler has more than three wickets to his name. These kinds of stats make us wonder why the Guyana Amazon Warriors are being rated as the favorites. The odds just do not make sense.

Here is the thing. The names in the lineup for the Warriors are clearly excellent. Hetmyer, Shepherd, Smith, Chandrapaul, and Klaassen should be able to have more impact as a batting unit than they have. The same can be said for Imran Tahir, Tabraiz Shamsi, Romario Shepherd, and Odean Smith in the bowling unit.

The fact, though, remains that this team is underperforming. We would be very careful betting on them at this stage considering their recent performances.

The conditions are pretty good for cricket. There is some rain around but nothing that is too bad. The pitch at the Darren Sammy Stadium is flat but a bit slow. It has bounce but the ball does not seem to carry through like we are used to seeing. Scores of around 160 are going to be quite decent on this surface.
