Southern Vipers

The Southern Vipers team is going into this game on the back of a couple of victories in their earlier matches. These victories were achieved against the teams of Sparks and South East Stars earlier in the competition. The Southern Vipers team played their last game against this opposition on 1st May in Wormsley. It was the 10th match of the competition and they recorded an emphatic win in this game by a margin of 3 wickets. The Central Sparks team batted first and scored 183 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Although the Southern Vipers team made heavy weather of the chase, they finally managed to reach the target in 41.1 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. The Central Sparks innings ran into troubled waters immediately at the start of their innings. For Southern Vipers, Georgia Adams was the pick of the bowlers picking up 4 wickets for 30 runs in her quota of 10 overs. Georgia Elwiss also picked up 2 wickets for 34 runs in her 8 overs. Some of the other bowlers who were successful in picking up wickets were Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean who picked up a wicket apiece.

The Sothern Vipers also could not manage a brusque start to their inning during the chase and lost some early wickets. They were quickly reduced to 4 wickets for 46 runs. After this, we got to see a good partnership between Georgia Adams and Charlie Dean that took the Southern Vipers team close to the target. Adams scored 50 runs from 70 balls with 7 fours while Charlie Dean hit 42 runs from 55 balls with 5 fours. Both these batswomen got out before reaching the target and it was left to Emily Windsor and Rhianna Southby to take the side across the line.

Central Sparks

During the last game between these two sides, the Central Sparks outfit lost an early wicket without having anything on the board. But there was a good partnership between Eve Jones and Abigail Freeborn for the second wicket as they put on 56 runs. Ami Campbell scored a fifty in the inning by hitting 54 runs from 76 balls with 4 fours. The wicketkeeper-batsman Abigail Freeborn scored 43 runs from 96 balls with 2 fours. But after these batters got out there was little resistance offered by the rest of the Sparks' batters as they were able to reach a score of 183 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

The Southern Sparks team needed early breakthroughs during the Southern Vipers inning. They did get some early wickets and reduced the Southern Vipers to a score of 46 for 4 in 14.3 overs. But the lower middle order for the Vipers put up a good show and did not allow more inroads to their inning. The opening ball bowler for Sparks, Emily Arlott was the pick of the bowlers picking up 2 wickets for just 23 runs from her 9 overs. Other bowlers such as Issy Wong and Katie George also picked up a couple of wickets for 29 and 31 runs respectively.

The only other bowler that was among wickets was Hannah Baker who picked up a single victim for 35 runs. However, the 21 wides conceded by Sparks cost them dearly and they did not have sufficient runs on the board. They have been forced to nurse a second defeat in the competition and will need to perform a resurrection job quickly to get back at the same opposition. The last seven overs of the Sparks inning provided 22 runs only and they slumped from 161 for 4 to a modest total of 183 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
