Two-time Champions Sydney Thunder had a disappointing start to their latest campaign, as they lost their opening match against the Hobart Hurricanes. Opting to bowl first, Sydney Thunder were able to contain Hobart to 125 runs but were unable to chase down the target, thanks to a collapse of the middle order, ultimately falling short of the target by 19 runs.

While it is still early stages of the tournament, Sydney Thunder would like to avoid a repeat of their last season’s performance, when they finished second-last on the points table. Rachel Haynes, who missed the last season due to fitness concerns, is once again back at the helm. While the team does seem to have the right mix of young as well as experienced players, the form of the players, especially the batters, remains an area of concern.

Perth Scorchers Women

Reigning Champions Perth Scorchers will be looking to start their campaign on a winning note here. Perth Scorchers have one of the most balanced sides in the tournament, with individual players who are single-handedly capable of changing the course of the game. 

Beth Mooney, who has been the top scorer of the tournament for the past two years, will once again be the mainstay of their batting department, and a player to watch out for. She will be supported by Sophie Devine, who captained them to their maiden championship victory last year. Another player to look out for will be Alana King, who has burst onto the Women’s cricket scene in the last 12 months and was instrumental in Australia’s victory in the recent Cricket World Cup.
